Part I: Character Behavior Consequences Jay Gatsby Self absorbed Heââ¬â¢s let down when all of his action donââ¬â¢t give him the results he wants. Daisy Buchanan Careless, selfish She gets the attention she seeks and the guilt becomes too much; especially when the tables turn and she finds out Tom is cheating. Tom Buchanan Firm, barbaric He loses his mistress and his wife begins to have an affair. Jordan Baker Self-centered , dishonest Nick leaves her forever. Myrtle Wilson Distant to George and annoying with Tom She loses her life in a car accident and ends up hurting George and Tom. George Wilson Jealousy His wife as an affair, he kills Gatsby and later takes his own life all after losing his wife.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Thatââ¬â¢s one of his little stunts. I picked him for a bootlegger the first time I saw him, and I wasnââ¬â¢t far wrong.â⬠This quote from the novel, The Great Gatsby, demonstrates the aspects that plagued the Roaring Twenties. I agree with the quote The beauty and splendor of Gatsbys parties masked the innate corruption within the heart of the Roaring Twenties. Jazz-Age society was a bankrupt world, devoid of morality, and plagued by a crisis of character. The twenties was full of corruption in society and politics. Moral ethics were lacked during this time and selfishness was the new ââ¬Å"thingâ⬠. Everybody had this idea that the key to ultimate happiness was to fulfill this thing called ââ¬Å"The American Dreamâ⬠, which meant doing anything to become the richest and have the greatest popularity. People would even go as far as to commit an act of violence to become wealthy with the knowledge to inquire it violates moral codes and national laws. Nicola Sacco and Bartolommeo Vanzetti was arrested on May 5th , 1920 for murder and robbery. These were the times when the economy was going bankrupt and politics had so much corruption in it. In the year of 1923 the Teapot Scandal was revealed. Albert B. Fall had illegally leased federal lands to Harry F. Sinclair without calling for competitive bids. He was arrested. On October 24, 1929 the stock market crashed and marked the beginning of the Great Depression in the United
